The 1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye 1.6 is a small, lightweight car that was designed to provide an exciting driving experience at an affordable price. This iconic car is a symbol of Peugeot's commitment to engineering excellence and remains one of the most sought-after vehicles of its era. Marketed as having "fewer frills, more thrills", the Rallye version had trademark steel wheels painted white. Power steering, central locking, and electric windows were omitted to keep the weight down to 825 kilograms.

The Rallye 1.6 was powered by a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that produced 103 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. This engine was mated to a five-speed manual transmission, which provided precise shifts and allowed drivers to make the most of the engine's power. The Rallye 1.6 could unofficially accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 8.3 seconds and had a top speed of 195 kmh.

The exterior of the 1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye 1.6 was designed with classic rally car styling cues, with a sleek and aerodynamic profile that exudes power and sportiness. It featured a unique front grille, wider fenders, and a lower stance than the standard 106. The Rallye 1.6 also featured a sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a lightweight body.

The interior of the Rallye 1.6 was designed to be functional and driver-focused, with a simple yet sporty design. It featured sport seats upholstered in cloth, a small sport steering wheel, and a basic sound system. The Rallye 1.6 did not come with air conditioning or power windows, which helped to keep the car's weight down.

The 1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye 1.6 was a joy to drive, with precise handling and excellent feedback that allowed drivers to feel connected to the road. The suspension was well-tuned and provided a firm yet comfortable ride, even on rough roads. The brakes were also powerful and provided excellent stopping power. The 106 was competitive in racing, but also made a practical small family car. All cars had steel wheels, and Rallye decals and seat coverings featuring a one or three colour flash, which again varied between early and late cars.

Today, the 1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye 1.6 is highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts. Its classic styling, excellent performance, and affordability make it a true icon of the rally car world. Prices for a well-maintained example can range from 10.000 EUR to 20.000 EUR depending on its condition and mileage. If you have the opportunity to drive one, you will not be disappointed. The 1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye 1.6 is a true masterpiece of automotive engineering that will always hold a special place in the hearts of rally car enthusiasts.

This 106 Rallye is a highly original example of Peugeot’s iconic lightweight hot hatch. Under the bonnet of this example is a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated inline-four, delivering 103 hp to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. This left-hand-drive Phase 2 model is unmodified and is reported to be in impressive condition for its age. Car for sale due to selling off private collection.
