The London Trip

Our business trip to London last week was very successful and interesting. We bought one car for our collections, unfortunately lost another one. We discussed the current market situation and the future of the classic and special cars market with many insiders. But most of all we started the beginning of two interesting cooperation.

THE HISTORICS AT BROOKLANDS AFTERSALE

As we are following all the auction venues around the world, we followed also this auction. As it was not a really successful auction, we thought this could be an opportunity to buy some cars in the aftersale and we contact the auction house with our interests for three of their cars. One was sold before we came, but we have personally visited the other two cars.

1953 OSCA MT4

The first one, a 1953 OSCA MT4 (auction link), had a really interesting history, with finishing 17th overall at the Mille Miglia 1953 and 2nd in the 2 liter class! The car remained unsold at 142.000 GBP. It had an older FIA Pass, ACI and many documents, but dating from ca. 2002. And as we got deeper through the history of the chassis no. 1126, we have found out that there are two chassis using s/n 1126! This chassis number corresponds to a car reputed destroyed. There were also a lot of heavy transformations: gearbox, wheels, door hinges and steering wheel were all wrong. And the body was rebuilt in 1959 with an Alfa engine installed during this time. So it would be a huge risk to bring the car to original specs, if we can’t be sure, this is the chassis with the great racing history.

1972 PORSCHE 911E COUPE

But the second car we visited was a better one. An extensively restored 1972 Porsche 911E, a rare “Oil Klapper” matching numbers example in a rare and stunning original color combination of Gold metallic over Brown leather/leatherette interior. Although the complete restoration was far from perfect, the issues were not a big deal to solve in the future. So we have left an offer, that was not accepted at first. But after a week we finally agreed to buy the car for 75.500 GBP including fees. The car is going to a Slovak collection of yellow colored air cooled Porsches and we are happy, that we could buy already a second car that went into this collection.

THE INSIDERS

We have spent the next day with many interesting insiders to talk about the market, the future and a possible cooperation. We have spend more than five hours with Max Girardo and we have fallen in love with another car in his showroom, a totally original, unmolested and unrestored 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA. We have seen so many cars in the last almost 15 years we travel to different venues and buying and selling cars, but it has not happened us for a long time a car could surprise us that much when seeing in person. The only issue was that the car was over our budget, but even before we got a chance to free up more finances and try to negotiate the car, it was sold.

.
But although we did not buy another car, it was a really great evening that ended up with many ideas where to lead our project in the future and we are really looking forward to it!
